The Student's Journal
Comparing the layouts of the Student's Journal this year with
last year. Personally, I don't really like last year's journal. I just
disliked the rings, it was too small for us to fold it and mostly the
pages of thr journals, more often than not, were torn out because of it.
Moreover, the Journal this year is slightly larger in size. The rings
are bigger too, which is very satisfying. Inside it, there were dividers
unlike this year but it's not necessary, students can make dividers by
themselves which is much better.
However, there are some additional sections in this year's journal; Important dates, goal settings, self study timetable and learning corner which I find is an advantage. But I would like to suggest some certain things which is on "Goal Settings" section. They should give at least a page for their goals on other activities i.e Goals- getting fit. Conclusions- jogging, cut sugars, eat healthily, drink more water. Time- 2/3/13 - 8/3/13. Results- success. So that students would find it fun and will be motivated to use the journal regularly. I would also like to suggest some changes in the "My Weekly Planner" section. All in all, I am quiet happy with it. Everything is complete in one page- the planner and the notes. Although, the spacing is rather small as not all students have small hand writings. Therefore, it will be great if the spacing would be a little bit bigger.
I interviewed Mrs Heather Alder, one of our English teachers, for her opinion about our Student's Journal. She said that she likes the cover and that the first section is useful. She stressed that the "Goal Settings" section is new- good idea, make students think about studying/improving/timetabling and also The importance of including relaxation and exercise time (free time) to provide balance between studying + time. She reiterated that the reading diary has smaller spaces for response but more realistic in time frame or reading periods, good if students "reflect" individually at home on Sundays. Generally, she thought the journal has been edited to be a more useful and practical planner/record/diary of students. Personally, she thought the learning corner should be with the study timetable/ planner section- at the beginning to help understand how they learn best and allow for this in their study, timetable and free time.
